2020 Sustainable Swap Challenge
I just stumbled across a new website/blog, the “conscious life & style” and Elizabeth’s (the founder of conscious life & style) sustainable swap challenge, and I decided it’s something I’d like to promote in 2020 within our farm community. In 2020, I’m personally going to really commit to reducing my household and farm’s waste to do my part in contributing to making some big impact sustainability changes.

Pumpkins for Pigs
Every year, for a week after Halloween, HBF partners with Care and Share Foodbank of Southern Colorado to college Halloween pumpkins to feed to our pigs. Below is a collection of videos from our local news stations that have done a clip about the event. Turn sound on...enjoy!
This turkey story has happy (and tasty) ending for Colorado Springs family
A few miles down the road, Katie Miller, who owns Heritage Belle Farms, a sustainable farm and ranch, has been breeding and raising turkeys for her family since 2008.
The turkeys live in a chicken coop and pal around outside with ducks and geese. Turkeys are curious, she says, and they explore like it's their job.
"They like to wander, they can be bossy, and they have a pecking order above chickens," she said. "They tell the chickens who's boss."
Miller likes raising turkeys because they are part of her goal of attaining self-sufficiency with homegrown food.
